#3: Technology and Newsletter

#1: Growing up with technology being used in almost every single classroom, most people around my age know how to get around different types of technology. I believe at the moment, I would never say I am an expert at these things, but I am confident that I would be able to do the best to my ability, and figure out more as I move on. As of right now, I feel like I am prepared to teach some of the "Multimedia" categories including science/technical subjects, history/social studies, and some of the points that fall under literature and informational text. I am prepared to fully teach "text structure", "use multiple sources", "write to explain/inform", and "vocabulary:use context clues". I am not confident in any of the media usage because I was never fully taught to use that kind of technology. I need more help if I wanted to teach "use digital media", "use technology", "integrate and evaluate", and "evaluate speaker's point of view".

#2: Since for my Newsletter Design assignment I chose the age range of 4th graders, I believe I will stick with the same group of children. I would want to use applications such as the World Wide Web. I believe the Internet becomes everyone's best friend at some point during their academic experience, and these students will need to learn their way around a web browser. They will need to know things such as an URL, uniform resource locator, the upgrades between Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 then to Web 3.0. I would also like to teach my students about the different social networking sites. As said in the textbook, Facebook and Twitter are going to be huge social media sites that are going to have a giant impact on their lives. The digital citizenship I will need to address is copyright and fair use laws, respectfulness when on the web, the consequences of cyber bulling, and how they could positively contribute to the ideas all over the web.

#3: For this Newsletter Design Assignment, I found it more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I own a Mac Book Pro, so Microsoft Word has a completely different setup on here than it usually would on a PC laptop. I first started this assignment on my personal computer, and found out many tricks that I found useful for this project. I also realized that Apple Microsoft Word has far less availability to neat things that would have helped me with this specific assignment. Once I realized this, I emailed myself most the project that I had already completed, and finished it on a PC computer so I could have all the options to the design better. I did enjoy doing this assignment because this might be something I will be doing in the future, so it was nice to have some practice with this. I did not like that we had certain requirements that we had to fulfill. I would have rather had this assignment more a "free for all", so maybe our personalities would come out in this newsletter.

    1. I understand your desire for a creative design in the newsletter. But it's hard to objectively grade a free-for all.
